Last week marked 60 days since the official launch of www.getSTEM-mn.com and the website's success continues! Tim McGraw, Work Coordinator at White Bear Lake Learning Center in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, is working hard preparing for their school's annual Career Day on April 30, 2009. On that day, 300 learning center juniors and seniors from North Saint Paul, Mahtomedi, Saint Paul, and White Bear Lake will assemble to hear up to 50 career day speakers.
Mr. McGraw says that the job of finding and confirming 50 speakers was made a lot easier this year when he used the "Just Ask" section of the www.getSTEM-mn.com. A number of STEM* professionals contacted Mr. McGraw after he posted his "Ask" on the website and volunteered to speak at the event.
"This Web site was key to helping me structure what I feel is going to be a big success and an impressionable event for the students," said Mr. McGraw. "I am looking forward to meeting the volunteers matched through the getSTEM web portal...it is volunteers like these that make such a lasting impression on our students. I expect that the students will be so excited that they will talk about the speakers for weeks after the event."
